I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Karen King, principal of The Centre PAC, regarding their audition process. Auditioning now for September 2020 entry, here’s everything you need to know about auditioning for this highly prestigious UK performing arts centre:

What does an audition at The Centre PAC involve?
The audition day lasts from 9.00-3.00pm. It consists of a ballet class, jazz class, song, monologue, physical assessment, guided improvisation a talk about the college courses & destinations and an interview with the principal.

How are you assessed?
The ballet class and jazz class are a mixture of typical exercises and routines to show technique and style and artistry. The physical assessment is to show us functional alignment, core stability and range of movement. Applicants are assessed on their potential, technically, artistically, musically and creatively in all areas of the audition process.

What do you have to prepare for the day?

The only things that need to be prepared before the day are a song and monologue.

What are the facilities like at The Centre PAC?

Our building is based in Maidstone town centre and consists of fully sprung dance studios with sound systems, one which is rigged for aerial silks, which forms part of our curriculum. A singing suite, library with computers, student social area, changing rooms and amenities.

How long do applicants have to wait to find out if they’ve been successful?

We notify applicants of their result within 10 working days.

If you are successful, are there any funding options available?

We offer our own in house Assisted Place Scheme and every applicant is graded and an offer of financial help is made based on those grades. This is explained at the beginning of every audition day.

Do you have any audition tips for prospective students?

Our tips for preparation are to come ready to enjoy the experience of what we have to offer. We are a passionate team who like nothing better than sharing our love of performing arts with young people who also feel the same. We want to see the real you.

Finally, why should you train at The Centre PAC?

Students should choose The Centre PAC because we are small and they will receive a highly intensive vocational training, alongside the option to gain the ISTD teaching qualifications DDE and DDP. These qualification allow them to pursue a long and sustainable career path. We have an outstanding record of graduate achievement spanning over 20 years due to our relevant curriculum and close association with industry professionals.
